Komphela on Mabasa: The Guy is Talented
Moroka Swallows coach, Steve Komphela, has nothing but praise for Orlando Pirates loanee, Tshegofatso Mabasa.
On Wednesday, 30 August, Mabasa – who joined Swallows from Pirates on a season-long loan earlier this month – proved his mettle by scoring a vital brace that contributed to his team’s 3-1 victory over Cape Town Spurs.
In an interview with a local media outlet on Thursday, 31 August, Komphela spoke highly of the 26-year-old forward, who was severely underutilised during his four-year stint with the Buccaneers.
“The guy is talented, he’s something else, any high ball coming to him, he has hold-up play, controls the ball, brings the team closer, in and around the box,” Komphela enthused.
“At Bloemfontein Celtic, when I worked with him, when he was still [in the youth league] and he later went on to Orlando Pirates, and I’m saying ‘Tshego, what is it with you? What’s lacking?’ He lacks nothing!”
The coach added that Swallows were “so extremely lucky to have him”, while also hinting that a man of Mabasa’s talent ought to be playing abroad.
Moroka Swallows are currently in sixth place with seven points on the Premier Soccer League rankings – not a shabby position at all, so we’re guessing Komphela will want to hang onto Mabasa for a little longer!
